To all our loyal readers (hi mom), I apologize for going almost 2 months without writing. I know you've all been clamoring for something, and here it is!
First off, 2016 ended incredibly. Thanks to all you crazies for keeping us busy. Like, crazy busy. We had people almost around the clock, and it was great. Thank you times one trillion.
Secondly, I'm gonna get a bit sappy, so if you can't handle the syrup, feel free to leave. I've just been thinking about how badly I wanted what I now have, and what that means.
In 2013, I had a good 9-to-5 and I hated everything. I am firmly convinced that some people are just healthier in alternative work environments rather than a strict 9-5, and I now know I am one of them. Nothing was wrong with the job, but it was killing me. Hard to explain, but if you understand, you understand.
Anyways, I wanted nothing more than to be my own boss. I didn't care how or what, I just wanted the freedom. I didn't mind working hard (side note...the quote "Entrepreneurs are the only people who will work 80 hours a week to get out of working 40" is so true), I just wanted to work hard for me. Do something that directly benefited me, be my own boss, do my own thing. I feel like I work well in the late nights, and I wanted to be able to do that, wake up when I wanted, etc.
In fact, I remember playing a game with friends one Halloween a few years back and you had to write a life goal and everyone had to guess who's was who's. Mine was "Never have to use an alarm clock again" and not even Caitlin knew what I was talking about.
Suffice it to say I needed something and I didn't know what. When the chance to buy Apericots came up at the end of 2013, I decided to just take the leap and go for it. My wife was supportive and believed we could do it, even if I had no actual idea what I was doing. We bought the business, and the rest, as we say, is history.
I'm sitting here in 2017 wondering how I got so lucky. Apericots has more than doubled in gross sales since we bought it. We've met so many fun people and have been able to do incredible things. I don't know if you call it luck, blessing, divine intervention, or whatever, but it happened.
It's one of the few times in my life where I got what I wanted and it was everything I'd hoped and more. I'm not writing this to brag or act like I'm cool for doing this. I'm not, I'm lucky. But my main reason for writing is that I hope, if anyone besides my mom reads this, they realize that it's possible. Good things can happen, and sometimes, just sometimes, you can get what you really want. And it will be amazing.
