The Journey IS the Destination

Posted by

Confession: We spent a good chunk of August overseas. In fact, I dare say we had 2 of the best weeks of our lives, and all the while, Apericots hummed along like a well-oiled machine. I don't really have a point in saying this except to say how awesome the world is. As much as I hate sitting on planes and Ubers and trains and ferries and such, that is really the essence of travel. Sitting, thinking about Apericots, about improving our business, about new designs, about our customers and how to better make people happy. Brainstorming new designs and furiously writing them down all while being bored out of my gourd with another 6 hours to go. The journey truly is the destination, and that's why it's so beautiful.

Last year, we went to Hawaii, and I came up with this really simple Aloha design. I just wanted something to show our love for the islands (and maybe an excuse to go back to do some business), and crazy enough, that design is now one of our top 10 bestsellers. Crazy, right? And without our wanderlust, it never would have come to be.

I've heard all sorts of amazing quotes about travel, from the cliche-but-true ("Not all who wander are lost"), to the philosophical (“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page”), to the thought-provoking ("you travel to search and you come back home to find yourself there"), but my point is this: seeing the world is amazing. It's inspiring. It's invigorating. And, in the case of Apericots, it's profitable :D

The Customer is Always Right...Right?

I've blabbed about customer service probably five times or more in this here blog. So why am I doing it again? Because it's important! And it's been on my mind lately.See, it's easy to treat our great customers well. People who are nice? Easy. People who say thanks? Great! People who have questions? No problem. [...]

Growing Painz

Nothing, and I repeat NOTHING is more cliche to me than the term "Growing Pains." I've heard and read about it in a million business and motivational books, and it always goes something like this: "Growing is way harder/more stressful/less fun/etc than the lean times..." etc. And I always called rubbish on those statements. Until...It's [...]

Life With a Business Vs. Business As Life

Let me preface this times 1,000,000...I LOVE LIFE! I LOVE OUR BUSINESS! THERE IS NOTHING ELSE I WANT TO DO RIGHT NOW (besides travel and somehow make money doing it, but still)...Hopefully I sound like I'm searching for balance (which I am) and seeking similar people to gain advice from (which I am) rather than [...]

Apericots Sizing Guide

Far and away, one of the top 3 questions we get is "How do your sizes run?" or something along those lines. (Questions 1 and 2 are, naturally, 1) how are you so awesome and 2) why isn't Mitch more famous?) For quite a while we would point people to this listing or that web [...]
