The Goldilocks Conundrum

Posted by

Is it Goldilocks that has food that's too hot, too cold, then just right? (Checking...yes, yes it is). I am not sure the point or moral of that story (is there one?) but I have been stuck in a "Goldilocks Conundrum" lately. (Hold on, I'm congratulating myself for coining the phrase "Goldilocks Conundrum" and I'm certain instantaneous riches are on their way...)

On both our website and our Etsy shop, I wonder, like Goldilocks (kinda) if we have too many products? Too few products? Just the right amount?

See, buyer's paralysis is a real thing. Give people too many options and they freeze. But don't give people enough options? They're gone. Both are bad because both result in no sales. So on Amazon, we can put anything we want, because Amazon has billions of products anyways. But Etsy and our website are much more finite, and I have no idea if we have too many, not enough, or just the right amount of products. In just the last month, we've taken down 130+ Etsy listings...not because they're not great products, but because if they're not selling, I feel like they might be distracting a buyer or just wasting space.

Am I crazy? Is this a good idea? Is there any data to show how many choices we should be giving buyers? To be determined, I suppose...
